Berkeley Acupuncturist Alex Tuggle L.Ac.
Alex Tuggle L.Ac., is a 2nd generation Acupuncturist and Qi Gong instructor. After being treated by his mother since early childhood for colds, flus, and later back pain issues, Alex Tuggle has gained invaluable training from a young age in alternative healing methods such as acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and diet. Alex's father, a retired Qigong and Meditation instructor, trained Alex since the age of 7 to practice Eight Treasures Qigong and practice Taoist meditation and spiritual cultivation practices, which Alex now incorporates and teaches his patients in his Berkeley and San Francisco acupuncture practice.
Dear readers, My life changed dramatically when I was twelve years old as I was hit by a car while rollerblading without a protective helmet. I suffered a serious head injury and a broken ankle and I was unconscious as they rushed me to the UCLA emergency room. I was held in intensive care for several days and was later released with a cast on my left leg from my hip to my foot, which later caused serious hip alignment issues and subsequent spine disorders. Years later I started to experience tremendous pressure in my head and severe stiffness in my neck. I went to see a chiropractor who told me that my hips were completely out of alignment and I had semi-severe scoliosis in my mid-back. I got regular chiropractic treatment for a couple years but my neck pain and stiffness wouldn't go away. I tried several other alternative therapies such as Cranio-sacral therapy, acupuncture, biofeedback therapy, and all of it helped but not enough to make any huge improvement. Once I began practicing my Qigong exercises and getting Acupuncture treatments more regularly and my muscles were able to loosen up more than before. I began to have a transformation in my Body Mind awareness. I realized that the psychological impact of having such a devastating blow to my body was so severe that it required perhaps years of practicing breathing meditations, Qigong stretching exercises, Acupuncture therapies, Trigger point release techniques, dietary restrictions, avoiding sugar, alcohol, and spicy foods, taking Chinese herbs and Nutritional Balancing vitamins and supplements, and just giving myself enough time and rest to relax my nervous system out of the "SHOCK" or "fight-or-flight" or even "freeze" response that my mind and body had been stuck in since my accident. I have since dedicated myself to learning, practicing and teaching holistic remedies for chronic back pain such as many various forms of Qi gong, meditation, stretching, acupuncture, massage and herbal medicine. By understanding and practicing certain fundamental concepts, we can take control of our physical health through our own conscious awareness. I have studied many different forms of Taijiquan and Qigong from various teachers, most notably the "Ni family Taoist Qigong tradition" which I was raised with. I have also developed many of my own practices over the years. Every person has their own intuition and "body sense" and if you just listen quietly to the body, you can develop movements and exercises that are Self-healing and can transform your pains into Spiritual discovery. The body knows. By slowing down and breathing deeply and naturally, you can find your center which will help to integrate your hurt and fragmented parts and bring you back to wholeness and health. I am a California State Board Licensed Acupuncturist. I received my Master's of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM)from Yo San University in Los Angeles, CA which was founded by Dr. Maoshing Ni and Dr. Daoshing Ni, their father and taoist master Hua Ching Ni, with whom I studied under since I was a child. I have done post-graduate studies in Holistic nutritional therapy and Orthomolecular medicine using Hair Mineral Analysis to diagnose endocrine disorders and environmental toxicity and to help in the design of Nutritional Balancing vitamin and mineral supplement programs for treating Heavy metal toxicity, Adrenal burnout, and Thyroid disorders. I have studied and practiced various forms of Pain management acupuncture protocols such as "trigger point" acupuncture, Japanese meridian acupuncture, Master Tung's style, Balance method, Pulse and Hara diagnosis methods. During my training I learned Traditional Asian Bodywork massage techniques such as Shiatsu, Tuina, Hara Abdominal massage, and Medical Qigong (subtle energy healing). I have offices located in Berkeley, CA 94709 and in San Francisco, CA 94107.
